The Role of LEPs

Date: 28/2/2011

  • A Waterfront Conference Company event
  • Venue: Bircham Dyson Bell, London
  • Endorsed by POS

Ministers announced the first wave of successful partnerships yesterday as part of a new plan for local economic growth. They also declared the £1.4bn Regional Growth Fund open for business. With twenty-four LEPs now given the go-ahead this seminar provides the opportunity to hear from some of the bids going forward on how they intend to set up, structure and fund their Local Enterprise Partnerships and the functions they will cover. This seminar is aimed both at LEPs going ahead, and those areas interested in becoming LEPs in the future. It will focus on the priorities for LEPs to address, how LEPs can take on functions such as strategic planning and how the transition from RDAs to LEPs will be managed.

The seminar will hear directly from LEPs which are being set up and will cover:

  • The White Paper on Local Growth and the role and focus of LEPs
  • Managing the transition from RDAs to LEPs
  • The potential of LEPs and priorities for them to address
  • Existing structures being used to form LEPs and potential future powers
  • Should LEPS operate as voluntary partnerships or is the certainty of a legal structure required?
  • Can LEPs provide a strategic planning function?
