Put simply, mediation is a cost effective way of resolving disputes and buildingconsensus with the help of an independent third party. It is not a substitute for good planning, but it can build trust and confidence in the planning system.
This Short Guide to Mediation in Planning hasbeen written in response to one of the recommendations in the report on mediation in planning commissioned by the National Planning Forum. One of the Report'srecommendations was preparation of a guide to mediation in planning.
