Dissatisfaction over LDFs

According to a TCPA report five years after the introduction of the new-look plans regime in England less than 20 per cent of English LPAs have completed their Core Strategies. Furthermore, a survey of public and private sector planners has identified widespread dissatisfaction over the effectiveness of the new arrangements.

The survey, carried out by the Town and Country Planning Association and Cushman and Wakefield, revealed that two-thirds of those responding to an email poll about LDFs said the process had failed to provide:

  • Meaningful involvement of the public
  • More local control over planning
  • Flexibility in producing and updating planning policies
  • A clearer policy basis for local decision-making on planning applications
