  • Minerals and Waste The Minerals and Waste Learning Project is the main Society vehicle for providing ongoing support to authorities involved in the preparation of minerals and waste plans.  It was set up in 2007, and has assisted over 20 authorities as they engage with the distinctive issues and pressures which go with planning for minerals extraction and for waste extraction.   It has just started its fourth year. The project officer is David Smethurst: E davidsmethurst@gofast.co.uk
  • LDF High Speed  - now nearing the end of its fifth year. The project officer is Karen Moore: E karenj.moore@btinternet.com
  • CIL and Infrastructure Planning -  The POSe CIL and Infrastructure Panning Project is a supported learning group intended to give LPAs practical assistance in preparing for both Local Iinfrastructure Plans (LIPs) and the Community Infrastructure levy (CIL) - it being done jointly with the PAS. So far learning groups have been set up and a serious of seminars undertaken on a regional basis. This involves working with 60 LPAs in three groups - two national and one regional. Meetings take place quarterly. The project officer is Graham Jones: GJ@jandjplanning.demon.co.uk
  • Responding to Climate Change - The Society, in association with Woking BC, set in train a project for a supported learning group whose members have explored different aspects of planning for climate change at a practical level, and explored how policies can be developed which are effective and readily applied in relation to development proposals.  Eleven authorities participating in year one with PAS also in attendance; ten authorities took part in the second year; and a third year is currently in progress. A separate group for 16 LPAs in the North West was also established. The project officers are John Silvester: johns@johnsilvesterassociates.co.uk and Sean Rendall: sean.rendall@ecsc.uk,com
