Councils joining forces can give a lot more leverage in securring investment, says POS

Date: 10/10/2014

Authorities in Greater Manchester have started work on the country's first statutory development plan for a city-region, Planning magazine recently reported.

Catriona Riddell, the POS Strategic Planning Subject Specialist, told a Planning reporter "I think that this is very ambitious but is just what is needed to help the city grow sustainably. This is agreat example of the potential power of a combined authority."

Riddell added that a statutory document "will give [Greater Manchester] a lot more leverage in securring investment opportunities and making sure that authorities deliver their contribution through local plans."
