In response to an enquiry from Planning magazine regarding the delay in the introduction of local fee-setting John Silvester, Spokesperson for the Planning Officers Society, said the lack of any decision is causing "some concern" among authorities. "Councils would like to see fee-setting as it would enable them to recover some of the costs for their development control services," he said.
"Authorities thought the fee-setting responsibility would be in place for the 2011/12 financial year and many councils put budget provisions in place on this premise. However, I would suspect councils have learned their lesson and will have not have made their budgets with fee-setting in mind this year," the Spokesperson said.
