Devolution deals need clarity about strategic planning

Date: 17/7/2015

The devolution of national planning powers to Greater Manchester and possibly to other areas, as announced by the Chancellor has highlighted the need for clarity about strategic planning in devolution deals.

Catriona Riddell, Strategic Planning Specilaist for POS, told Planning that while Greater Manchester has provided some clarity about its vision for planning, the devolution debate appears to lack an understanding of the central role of strategic planning. "Many of the discussions around devolution deals are not being explicit in their strategic planning roles, which may be because of the sensitvity around the need for this to address issues like housing provision," she said.
