POS Welcomes HoC Committee's Review of NPPF

Date: 19/12/2014

The Commons Communities and Local Government select committee this week published its report into the NPPF and POS was quick off the mark to read the report and welcome the recognition that objectively assessed housing need and 5 year housing land supply do not work well and need to be revisited.

Mike Kiely, Chair of the POS Board, said "I do hope that DCLG are coming to this same conclusion so we will be pushing this point further in the new year."

The committee made a number of recommendations to change the NPPF including requiring that environmental and social aspects of development proposals be given the same weight as economic aspects, and that permission be granted for development only if the necessary infrastructure was included. However, POS noticed that the report featured some partcular hobby horses and other matters that's got nothing to do with NPPF, such as the removal of PD rights.
