Planning Can Help Economic Growth and Save Money, Says Kiely for POS

Date: 2/1/2015

With councils having experienced severe cuts in funding from central government Mike Kiely, former President of POS and the current Chair of the Society's Board, told Planning magazine that with no prospect of councils being allowed to increase application fees he expects charging for services to become more common. he indicated that many planning chiefs complain that handling applications costs more than current fees generate.

Kiely also stated that planning teams' resources are likley to be most secure when the council views the service as key to the delivery of growth. "Planning heads should try to persuade their councils that planning can help economic growth and therefore save money and boost income" Kiely said.
