Proposed 10 week deadline for councils to decide on neighbourhood plan is challenging, says POS

Date: 29/8/2014

In reply to a Planning magazine enquiry as to the Society's views on the DCLG proposals to simplify the neighbourhood planning process, Stephen Tapper, the Society's Local & Neighbourhood Planning Specialist, said that the proposed ten-week deadline for councils to make a decision on neighbourhood plan bids would be a "challenge" if the application was "unexpected" by the authority and 13 weeks would be preferable.

Tapper continued "it takes a lot of careful consideration before agreeing to a neighbourhood plan area, especially if it has implications for sites being considered for development by the planning authority."
