No Shift in Government Policy Based on Recent SoS Wind Energy Development Decisions, Suggests POSs Silvester

Date: 8/1/2015

Responding to a Planning magazine reporter regarding the Secretary of State's recent spate of decisions overturning inspector's recommendations on wind energy developments John Silvester, former POS President and the Society's current Communications Manager, commented that the secretary of state should have the power to recover an appeal and have the ability to determine it as they see fit, which may well overturn an inspector's recommendations.

Silvester said that whilst not being able to comment on specific decisions he believed that by their very nature secretary of state interventions should be the exception rather than the rule but always based on sound planning grounds rather than any other .  "There is no apparent reason to suggest a shift in government policy based on these decisions" Silvester added.
