Emerging Neighbourhood Plans Could Outweigh Emerging Local Plans Warns POS

Date: 1/8/2014

Speaking to Planning magazine Stephen Tapper, the Society Local & Neighbourhood Planning subject specialist, said he was worried that the potential weight being given to emerging neighbourhood plans could be greater than that given to emerging local plans.

The government plans to recover more planning appeals in neighbourhood planning areas. Nick Boles said that communities secrtetary Eric Pickles is keen to "give particular scrutiny to planning appeals in, or close to, neighbourhood plan areas to enable him to consider the extent to which the government's intentions are being achieved on the ground."

Tapper added that emerging local plans "have not been given a huge amount of weight by the government" and that "I hope the secretary of state exercises considerable caution in the number [of apeals] he does recover."
