POS Agrees with MPs that the Intended Abolition of RSSs Leaves a Vacuum at the Heart of the English Planning System

In response to the Commons Select Committee's report Catriona Riddell, Convenor of the Societys's Strategic Planning  Topic Forum, told Planning magazine that "POS is pleased to see that the Committee has listened to our evidence and acknowledged the vacuum left by Regional Spatial Strategies in terms of strategic planning arrangements to support long term sustainable growth, particularly investment in infrastructure."

Riddell added, "The Government has an opportunity now to rectify this through the Localism Bill and we hope that the changes to the 'duty to co-operate' promised by the Secretary of State, will provide a transparent and effective mechanism for strategic planning in the new locally driven system."
