Eric Pickles has announced today that existing regional stratgeies and their housing targets will be revoked. A formal announced is to be made at the LGA conference later this month.
John Silvester, Spokeperson for the Planning Officers Society, told Planning magazine "Whilst we are sorry to see the demise of regional planning the uncertainty created by the previous announcement, in so far as it could only have been construed that future RSSs would be stopped but existing ones would remain, is removed by this latest letter. However, it is possible that whilst extant RSSs will be revoked the evidence base created by their preparation will remain and in my view will be a material consideration in the determination of local policy."
