POS is introducing a membership option to planning schools to promote planning as a worthwhile career. The number of students applying to study undergraduate planning degrees in the next academic year is down by nearly one-fifth, according to figures from UCAS.
Planning Officers Society Spokesperson, John Silvester, told Planning magazine "it is understandable that the current economic climate is deterring some students." But he added that the profession needs to sell itself more, "what better job is there than improving the quality of people's lives?".
POS President Mike Holmes is to write to all the Planning Schools with details of the membership option. Any enquiries about membership should be made to Linda Durtnal.
