At the National Planning Summit on 24th March Mike Kiely, POS Chair, launched the third part of the POS Manifesto - "We Need to Talk About the Green Belt".
Kiely suggested "The Green Belt is increasingly becoming the Marmite of planning policy: defended and decried in equal measure. POS has taken a step back from this highly charged debate to look at this area afresh."
He added "We do not advocate for or against reviewing GBs, just that any debate around the issue should be conducted from a full understanding of the policy and, if a review is to be undertaken, it should be done in a way that results in sustainable development patterns. Our paper concentrates on the Green Belt around London because it was the first, and the current pressure is particularly acute, but the principles apply to all Green Belts."
