POS Trophy awarded to the Local Authority Planning Team of the Year

Date: 22/6/2017

The winners of the Planning Awards, organised by Planning magazine and PlacemakingResource, were announced at a ceremony at London's Savoy Place on 21 June. The LPA Team of the year category is sponsored by POS and the Society's silver trophy was awarded to The City of London Planning Department.

The City of London's planning team deals with some of the largest development schemes in the country. But it's not just size that matters. In the last two years, the team has secured more than 12,500 off-street cycle spaces through planning obligations. New uses have been sought for historic buildings. Archaeological sites, such as the Roman Temple of Mithras at the new Bloomberg headquarters, have been protected.

Judges praised the team for its "exceptional work in an exceptional area, which must be the envy of local planning authorities elsewhere". They also described it as "a high-performing local planning authority delivering quality development at scale".

Mike Kiely, Chair of POS, who on behalf of the Society presented the award and POS Silver Cup with Rev Richard Coles, said, "Annie Hampson and her talented team at the Corporation do a fantastic job in looking after the centre of our great City and this award is well-deserved."

Also highly commended were Taunton Deane and West Somerset Council's Planning Policy Team, and Bury Council's Development Management Team.
