In response to the new Government's Big Society initiative David Hackforth, Society President, told Planning magazine that the Planning Officers Society welcomes the principle of giving more power and autonomy over planning to local government though there will still be a need for effective strategic planning. "We are keen to work with the new government to help develop their ideas, following up on the first meeting of the Sounding Board in April chaired by Bob Neil and Grant Shapps" said Hackforth.
POS believes that is better to adapt and simplify the existing system rather than start again from scratch and will expand on this in it's own manifesto Three Steps to Better Planning to be published later this week.
