POS pleads local infrastructure benefits from new homes bonus
In response to the New Homes Bonus announcement John Silvester, Spokesperson for the Planning Officers Society, commented "I suspect the prospect of say £10 - 15,000 per dwelling would prove little of an incentive to an authority facing local opposition to any new housing development. However, for those supporting growth it could be of real benefit to local people if it was invested in improvements to existing or to new facilities for all to enjoy."

Housing minister Grant Shapps has today (9th August 2010) outlined his plans to 'reward' councils that give planning consent and support the construction of new homes; the New Homes Bonus will see the government match the council tax raised on each new home for six years.
