Harrow planning chief, Graham Jones, has become the new President of the Planning Officers Society. He was elected at the Society's Annual General Meeting held in Solihull on Friday 20th May 2005.
At the AGM Graham stated that it was his aim for the year was to ensure that the changes initiated by his predecessor Paul Watson are fully embedded and so ensure that POS has the capacity to fulfil its dual roles, as the credible voice of Local Government Planning and to support the needs of its members in grasping the opportunities afforded by the new planning system.
Graham has spent all his career in London Boroughs, working at Redbridge and Haringey before moving to Harrow in 1975. He was appointed Director of Strategic Planning in 2004 having previously been Chief Planning Officer. Graham graduated from Southampton University with a degree in Sociology and Politics and has post-graduate diplomas in Planning and Urban Design.
Graham has been Chairman of the Planning Officers Society Management Topic Group for the past 5 years. He took up the position of Senior Vice President of the Society in May 2004 and has been very involved in ensuring that the views of practising Local Government Planners have influenced the planning reform agenda.
