POS CREATES GOING SMOKEFREE GUIDANCE

From 1 July 2007, virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces in England will become smokefree.   In preparation for this, the Planning Officers Society has created a new template Planning Advice Note on Smoking Shelters and Other Features , for local authorities to use when putting together their own guidance.

Phil Kirby, for the Society, said “we are indebted to Frank Stocks at Harrow for much of the leg work in preparing this template guidance note which will be invaluable to local planning authorities up and down the country. It will provide a helpful starting point in discussing the planning requirements with businesses which are proposing to provide external facilities for smokers on their premises.”

The POS is working with LACORS and Smokefree England in advising employers preparing for the impact of the new legislation.
