PLANNERS INVOLVED IN NEW GUIDE FOR HOUSING LAND ASSESSMENTS

The much heralded practice guide for the undertaking of strategic housing land availability assessments has been published by the DCLG after having taken into account the views of planners. The guide is intended to provide a robust methodology to identify more land for housing.

CLG invited the Local Government Association and the Home Builders Federation to prepare the guide, who in turn asked POS Ent erprises Ltd to perform this role. The work was led by a steering group of representatives from CLG, LGA, HBF, POS and PINS. POSE Ltd was supported by Llewellyn Davies Yeang.

John Silvester, the Society representative on the steering group, said “Instrumental in its preparation were workshops held with practitioners early in the process to ensure the guidance was helpful and realistic. We will continue to support and advise planners on practical matters; thus we are keen to receive observations from planning authorities and others on the use of the guidance so we can provide feedback to POS members.”

The guidance is now available to download from the CLG website: http://www.communities.gov.uk/index.asp?id=1511886
