About POS Enterprises

POS Enterprises was set up in 2004, as the delivery arm of the Society. Its remit is "..... to provide consultancy and other services in support of and in a manner consistent with the objects of the Planning Officers Society." The tie in to the Society's objectives is important to us, because it makes it clear that our purpose is not just to bring in revenue, but to actively support local authorities to succeed and improve their services.

POS Enterprises is wholly owned by the Society, and all profits go to the Society to swell its capacity to provide support to its members and public sector planning.

POS Enterprises is unique in that much of its work is the result of needs being by the Society or from working with authorities. Funding is sought for the resulting project proposals to enable their delivery, with significant success. This reflects the importance national organisations place on the Society's thinking.

Another unique feature of the POS Enterprises approach is that it offers several supported learning projects with groups of participating local authorities, which focus on key areas of professional practice. The existing groups cover:

development management and spatial planning
LDF preparation
minerals and waste planning
infrastructure planning and the CIL
responding to climate change

POS Enterprises also works with authorities as a critical friend for LDF work, as well carrying out a range of commissions for individual authorities.

The Directors are all serving local government officers, appointed by the Society. They are unpaid. The current Directors are -
