The Planning Officers Society has engaged extensively with the Killian Pretty Review and supports their call for the information requirements for planning applications to be ‘clearer, simpler and more proportionate'. The consultation paper is welcomed. The Society's response to the consultation questions is set out below:

1. Do you agree with the proposed policy principles? If not, what amendments to these principles would you suggest?

The proposed principles are well-considered. In relation to Table A, the key considerations under the heading of necessity should include national guidance, not just policy, as some local list requirements may be drawn form published guidance from the Government or its agencies, such as the Environment Agency or Natural England. For example, paragraph 47 in this consultation paper talks about the Government providing clearer guidance on national list items and making it clear that local authorities should only require plans that are relevant.
