Minerals & Waste

What Does it Do?

The Minerals and Waste Committee advises and represents the Society on policy and practice relating to minerals and waste planning issues.

The Group liaises with and seeks to influence Government, the Local Government Association and other bodies at national, regional and local level on the development and formulation of policy and best practice for Minerals and Waste Planning Authorities.

We also prepare and disseminate good practice on the delivery of minerals and waste planning services to all local authorities in England and Wales.

What is the Group responsible for?

The Committee acts as a focal point for Members of the Society, providing general information and advice on current Mineral and Waste Issues, best practice and sources for further detailed advice. The issues we cover are:-

  • Minerals and Waste Planning Policy
  • Minerals and Waste Planning Control
  • Land Reclamation
  • Minewater Pollution
  • Recycling and Waste Minimisation Issues
  • Minerals and Waste Research
  • Pollution from Minerals and Waste Operations

How We Operate

The work of the Group is carried out by the main Committee and its four Planning Advisory Groups (PAG).

The Committee meets each quarter with at least one meeting being held in a country location and specially organised to examine minerals and/or waste issues of importance to the locality.
