Cemeteries and deathscapes: an overlooked planning challenge
Our first event of 2026 shines a light on an often overlooked area of planning that is facing a quiet but critical crisis: cemeteries and deathscapes. Despite their vital role as community, environmental and cultural infrastructure, these spaces are frequently neglected in planning discussions.
We will be joined by Dr Katie McClymont, Associate Professor of Urban Planning, UWE Bristol, as she explores the current state of England's cemeteries, the on-going burial space shortage, and why cemeteries should be recognised as critical assets by planning and the planning system.
